Oh. My. Goodness. High West’s Double Rye is good. It has to be the best rye I’ve had neat.
Get a bottle and pour yourself a bit of this medium dark amber joy. The nose is a bit strong in alcohol at first but it calms quickly. Leaving a dark and woody flavor which is appropriately rich in rye grains.
Its taste is surprising dark with a thick viscosity that borders on syrup. It’s nowhere near as strong as the nose would predict. It is smoooooth and buttery and thick in caramel. The rye flavors come through immediately and stay throughout. It burns only if you hold it on your tongue but there is a bit of pepper heat on the back of the lips.
I’m not as much a fan of the Double Rye as a Manhattan as the complex flavors wash out leaving a good but not great cocktail.
Last Call…
I keep coming back to the Double Rye as my last drink of the night. Do yourself a favor and get a bottle to try it yourself
